Donald Trump’s new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is looking for “super high-IQ” individuals willing to work more than 80 hours a week—without pay. The department, led by Elon Musk (CEO of Tesla and a dogecoin fan) and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, aims to slash wasteful government spending, cut regulations, and overhaul federal agencies. Neither Musk nor Ramaswamy will receive compensation for their efforts.

In a social media post, DOGE emphasized that they’re not interested in part-time thinkers. Instead, they want “small-government revolutionaries” ready to take on the grueling task of trimming down unnecessary costs. Candidates are encouraged to submit resumes via X (formerly Twitter), where Musk and Ramaswamy will personally review the top 1% of applicants.

Musk acknowledged the tough nature of the job, stating that the work will be challenging, come with little recognition, and, of course, no pay. He also noted that the mission has lofty goals, calling it potentially “The Manhattan Project of our time.” Trump sees DOGE as the key to fulfilling his administration’s vision of dismantling government bureaucracy.

Experts like Maya MacGuineas from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget have welcomed the initiative. She pointed out that with America’s massive fiscal issues, this kind of reform is long overdue. While supporting the effort, MacGuineas also urged DOGE to scrutinize the entire federal budget—especially areas like health care, defense, and tax spending.

Improper payments, especially in programs like Medicare and Medicaid, have been a huge problem, with billions of dollars slipping through the cracks every year. MacGuineas suggests that DOGE needs to work across party lines if they want to make this work, stressing that getting Congress on board is key.

If DOGE pulls this off, it could save a ton of money and actually rebuild some trust in the government, cutting down on waste and fraud in a way that actually benefits the people paying taxes.
