Airline Passenger Sues After She Claims Injury by an Ice Cream Sandwich
JetBlue is facing another food-related scandal after a woman says she broke her tooth on an ice cream sandwich that was “dangerously cold.” The lawsuit alleges that Kiara Quinonez bit into a delicious CHOMP by Nightingale Strawberry Shortcake ice cream sandwich on a flight from New York to Paris when it happened.
The lawsuit says that Quinonez suffered a root fracture because the treat was frozen “at a temperature below what is reasonable or safe for consumption.” She allegedly needed immediate medical assistance when the plane landed in Paris. The suit is asking for damages for permanent and severe bodily injuries from the ice cream sandwich.
This isn’t the first time JetBlue has been in trouble because of food—even this year. Back in July, a woman from New Jersey filed a $1.5 million lawsuit against the airline when hot tea was spilled on her during turbulence.
In 2017, JetBlue kicked a New Jersey family off a flight when they tried to bring their child’s birthday cake on board. The family got into an argument with flight attendants over where the cake should be stored, so the airline kicked them off the plane. JetBlue later refunded the family’s tickets and gave them a bunch of reward points, but still says that the whole thing was the family’s fault.
What do you think? Was JetBlue negligent in keeping its ice cream frozen at an unsafe temperature? Or is the woman who claims she broke a tooth on the treat at fault?
Here’s how local media in New Jersey is covering the story:
