Brennan Claims He’s “Clueless” As FBI Probe Circles Him

Former CIA Director John Brennan insists he has “no idea” why he’s under FBI investigation, telling MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace he’s “clueless” about why federal prosecutors would consider charging him for his role in the 2017 Trump-Russia collusion probe. This comes as Fox News Digital reported that current CIA Director John Ratcliffe has referred evidence of potential wrongdoing to FBI Director Kash Patel, citing concerns over how Brennan handled the intelligence community’s assessment claiming Russia interfered in the 2016 election to help Donald Trump.

“I think that the people who actually worked this… showed the best of what the intelligence community and what CIA is made of,” Brennan said, adding he has not been contacted by the DOJ. “I am clueless about what it is exactly that they may be investigating me for.” He said if the investigation was valid, he would presumably be questioned, but insisted again, “I’ve had no contact from them.”

Brennan’s public head-scratching comes just days after Ratcliffe declassified a “lessons learned” review of the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA), revealing the assessment was rushed, contained “procedural anomalies,” and included the Steele dossier despite its unreliability. The review determined including the dossier “ran counter to fundamental tradecraft principles and ultimately undermined the credibility of a key judgment” used to justify the collusion narrative.

Records from the review also revealed Brennan had pushed to include the discredited Steele dossier in the ICA, despite testifying in May 2023 that he didn’t think it should be included. This contradiction is now a focus of investigators and may expose Brennan’s previous testimony to renewed legal scrutiny as Republicans and Trump allies argue the intelligence community misled the country to damage Trump’s presidency.

House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan has also noted that closed-door testimony confirmed the letter calling Hunter Biden’s laptop Russian disinformation was “all political.” Many believe this points to a broader pattern of intelligence officials abusing their power to manipulate public perception and interfere in elections under the guise of national security.

The FBI investigation into Brennan is unfolding alongside a reported investigation into former FBI Director James Comey, with the Trump administration vowing accountability for what it has labeled a “brazen, coordinated effort” to kneecap Trump’s presidency with false allegations and partisan leaks. Supporters see the probe as long-overdue justice, while the corporate media continues to downplay the implications of potential prosecutions.

Brennan’s claim of ignorance may not hold up much longer if the investigation moves forward, especially as declassified records indicate his role in shaping a narrative that kept the country distracted and divided for years. Trump and his allies argue that if the intelligence community is held accountable for misleading the American people, it will be a major step toward restoring trust in institutions and punishing bad actors who weaponized government agencies for political ends.

Stay tuned as this investigation develops, with potential subpoenas and charges looming as the Trump administration signals it is prepared to follow through on its promises to clean house in the intelligence community.
