Melania Trump is taking Hunter Biden to task in a very public and high-stakes way. The First Lady’s legal team, led by attorney Alejandro Brito, sent an August 6 letter to Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, demanding that he retract and apologize for comments she says have caused “overwhelming financial and reputational harm.”

At the center of the dispute are remarks Biden made during a YouTube interview with Andrew Callaghan, in which he claimed that convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein introduced Melania to Donald Trump. According to Brito, the statement is not only false but also rooted in a discredited claim from author Michael Wolff, whose own reporting on the matter was already retracted.

“Immediately retract the false, defamatory, disparaging and inflammatory statements,” Brito wrote, warning that failure to do so would leave Melania with “no choice but to pursue any legal rights and remedies available.”

Brito emphasized that Biden’s comments were picked up and reposted widely by media outlets, journalists, and social media influencers — reaching tens of millions globally. He argued that this broad repetition has compounded the damage to Melania’s reputation and caused severe personal and professional harm.

The letter also points out that The Daily Beast, which originally published Wolff’s claims, issued a public apology and removed the story entirely after receiving a cease-and-desist notice from Melania’s lawyers. Despite that, Biden allegedly “maliciously elected to republish” the claim.

Brito suggested that the timing of Biden’s remarks showed “actual malice,” accusing him of using sensational lies to draw attention to himself — a tactic he linked to Biden’s history of trading on famous names for personal gain.

Adding weight to Melania’s case, Democrat strategist James Carville also retracted similar statements about the First Lady after being contacted by her legal team. On his Politics War Room podcast, Carville admitted he reviewed Melania’s complaint, removed the offending material from a YouTube video, and issued an apology.

Despite the demands in Brito’s letter, a source told Fox News that Biden missed the August 7 deadline to retract his remarks. Instead, he allegedly “leaked the letter” to a friendly reporter — a move Melania’s camp says underscores his awareness of the “serious liability” he faces for spreading defamatory lies.

The situation now seems primed for a courtroom showdown unless Biden reverses course. Melania’s aggressive legal posture — paired with the substantial $1 billion notice — sends a clear message that she intends to protect her name at all costs.

For now, Hunter Biden has remained publicly silent on whether he will issue an apology or retract his claims. But given that multiple parties have already walked back similar remarks, the First Lady appears confident in the strength of her position.

Whether this turns into a prolonged legal battle or ends with a retraction and settlement will depend on Biden’s next move. One thing is certain: Melania Trump has drawn a sharp line, and she’s daring Hunter Biden to cross it again.
